At the invitation of the government of France and Gabon, within the framework of the Alliance for the Preservation of Tropical and Humid Forests, the International Technical Association for Tropical Timber (ATIBT) participated this Thursday 25 of November in the first meeting of the Forum for Sustainable Value Chains in Africa, as part of the “Choiseul Africa Business Forum”, which took place in Nice, France.
The Alliance Charter foresees that "an early end to the destruction of nature is essential to achieve the objectives of the Paris Agreement, those of the global biodiversity framework for post 2020, which will be adopted at COP15 of the Convention on Biological Diversity, as well as the Sustainable Development Goals. Awareness of the public is steadily increasing, and this has repercussions on the commitments of companies and public policy objectives. "
In this forum, the ATIBT shared its experiences in tropical forest ecosystems conservation, through the sustainable and responsible management of the over 5 million FSC/PEFC certified concessions by ATIBT member enterprises. The importance to improve the image of the tropical forestry sector was stressed and the fact that sustainable management contributes to climate change mitigation, conservation of biodiversity and local development.
