Bodioa is a large tree from Central Africa. The wood is light brown, heavy, medium-hard to very hard, suitable for industrial uses (flo oring, heavy frameworks, vehicle or container bottoms) when it has received an adequate preservative treatment.
Anopyxis klaineana
Family: RHIZOPHORACEAE (angiosperme)
Commercial restriction: no commercial restriction
Bodioa is a large tree of the West and Central African forests, reaching 40 m in height and 1 m in diameter. Its trunk, generally straight, has buttresses at the base. It is grey to orange brown, with very sinuous cracks.
The exotic species bodioa is a heavy and hard wood. However, it is not very resistant to fungi and dry wood borers: it is therefore not durable. In order to exploit its physical and mechanical qualities, it is necessary to treat it.
It can be used in interior joinery, as well as in exterior joinery for the manufacture of doors and windows. Its characteristics make it a material suitable for the construction of heavy frameworks, industrial flooring, and vehicle and container bottoms.
The tropical timber bodioa can be used for the following purposes:
Structures and panels
Exterior joinery (building facade)
Carpentry and interior fittings
Industrial usage and heavy work
Miscellaneous uses
The distribution area of the tropical species bodioa extends from the Atlantic coast of West Africa (Sierra Leone, Liberia, Ivory Coast, Ghana, Nigeria) to Central Africa (Cameroon, Equatorial Guinea, Gabon, Congo, DRC).
The exotic species bodioa is a non-deciduous, mainly evergreen forest species. The winged seeds of this hermaphrodite species are dispersed by the wind from September to March.
