The name "eyoum" gathers several species of exotic African timber marketed under this name. They are light pinkish brown to very dark reddish brown, heavy to very heavy and hard to very hard. Eyoum woods are very durable materials, especially used for the construction of railway sleepers and bridges, as well as for hydraulic works.

Eyoum is a tree of the African tropical forests which measures 30 m in height and 1 m in diameter. It has sometimes buttresses. Its trunk is reddish brown, scaly and covered with a bark marked with small irregular scales.
The tropical species eyoum is a very durable wood, used in heavy industry and construction for industrial flooring, heavy frames, vehicle, wagon and container bottoms. It is also used in exterior carpentry for exterior cladding and window frames.

The tropical species eyoum is found over a wide distribution area in Central Africa, from the southern part of Cameroon to the DRC.
The tropical species eyoum is a non-gregarious, non-deciduous species found mainly in dense evergreen rainforests, as well as in semi-deciduous forests. It is a shade tolerant species and its hermaphroditic seeds are dispersed by animals from January to March.
