Okan is an exotic timber species native to West Africa. The wood is very durable and naturally covers class 5 (use in marine environment and brackish water). It can be used in environments highly exposed to aggression, for example in the manufacture of bridges, railway sleepers or in hydraulic works.

Okan is a very large tropical tree that can reach 60 m in height and 2 m in diameter. The trunk is brown, with buttresses and is often barked by elephants. Young trees are marked with thorns, while older trees have a very scaly trunk.
The tropical timber okan is a very heavy and hard material, very durable, suitable for use in highly exposed environments: it is used for the construction of bridges, especially in marine environments, and for railway sleepers or heavy frameworks.

The distribution area of the tropical species okan extends from West Africa (Ivory Coast, Ghana) to Central Africa (Cameroon, Equatorial Guinea, Gabon, Central African Republic, Congo, DRC).
The exotic species okan is a deciduous and non-gregarious species of dense evergreen and semi-deciduous rainforests. Its seeds are dispersed by the wind from November to March.
